Zak Whalin

Rosters Number: 44
Position: C, 3B, 1B
Class: Sophomore
Hometown: North Fort Meyers, FL

Zak capped a very strong freshman year with an outstanding performance in the Region 24 Tournament.  In 5 games he went 8 for 18 with 3 doubles, 1 homer and 9 RBI.  He posted an overall batting average of .392 (led the team) in 2016, belting 3 home runs and driving home a team leading 56 runs. In addition, Zak set a school record with 25 doubles, surpassing the former mark of 21.  Zak also had an outstanding OBA of .504, thanks to drawing 26 walks and being hit by pitch a team leading 16 times. In addition, he demonstrated a great 2-strike approach, striking out only 15 times in 224 plate appearances.

Zak is also a fine defensive catcher - a real good receiver with a strong arm and great feet. The Blazers are hoping to give him a break behind the dish this year following a freshman year where he caught most of the team’s games.  Keeping him fresh should improve help improve his offensive output in 2017.
