The Mid West Athletic Conference and Region 24 recently announced the award winners in men’s and women’s basketball for the 2018-19 season. Each of the Trail Blazer basketball programs are well represented.

Women’s Basketball

The women's program generated one Second Team All Conference selection and one Region 24 selection following their 15-15 season. Freshman Kelsi Dishman had an outstanding first-year campaign on her way to generating All Conference honors. Dishman posted averages of 10.9 ppg, 5.3 rpg while shooring 44% from the field and 40% from the three point line. Her accuracy from behind the three point line was good enough to be 2nd overall in the league. Her 21 made three point field goals in league play was the third-most in conference play. Kelsi was also 8th in scoring and 8th in rebounding in the Mid West Athletic Conference. Click HERE  for the full list of MWAC award winners.

Sophomore Chelsea Wood was the lone selection on the Region 24 twelve-person team. Wood posted season averages of 10.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 55% from the field during her sophomore campaign. Men’s Basketball

The Trail Blazer men produced 2 All-Conference and All-Region performers following their 2nd place MWAC finish and Region 24 tournament championship. Cory Miller Jr, a First Team selection as a freshman, was not only a repeat First Team All Conference and All Region choice, but was also named the Co-Player of the Year in both the conference and the region. Miller shared both awards with the conference champion and #1 seed in the tournament, Parkland's leading scorer, Yaakema Rose Jr. Cory posted in league averages of 20.5 ppg (1st in league), 3.6 rpg, and 2.5 apg (5th in league), while finishing 2nd in the league in block shots, 1st in steals, and 3rd in assist/turnover ratio. He also shot an incredible 53.8% from the field (3rd in the league), 45.5% from the three point line (5th in the league), and 79.5% from the free throw line (7th in the league). He scored in double figures in 7 of the 8 conference games and topped 25 points four separate times. Gentry Whiteman was a Second Team selection and an All Region selection following his sophomore campaign. He finished 3rd in scoring in the conference, averaging 14.8 ppg. He lead the league in three point field goals made, while shooting a remarkable 47.2% from the three point line (3rd in the league).
