Coach Brad Hoyt was announced as the Head Men's Basketball Coach on April 15, 2011. This was the second time that Coach Hoyt has assumed the head coach position. Hoyt was the head men's basketball coach at John Wood during the 2004-05 campaign.  He is no stranger to the program playing on a NJCAA national qualifying team (1994-95) and serving as an Assistant Basketball Coach for five seasons before becoming Head Coach.  After finishing the 2004-05 basketball season with 19 victories and having a player named first team All American (Joel Box), he accepted the head coaching position at Culver Stockton College. Coach Hoyt had the opportunity to be the Head Basketball Coach, Chair of the Sport Management Program, and instructor at Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO for three years and returned to JWCC for the 2008-09 campaign.

In Coach Hoyt's return as the head men's basketball coach, the seven years have been considered a success. The 2014-15 season culminated with a trip to the NJCAA DII National Championship game, finishing as the National Runner Up. It was the second consecutive trip to the NJCAA National Tournament, following the second consecutive Region 24 and District 16 tournament championship and back to back Mid West Athletic Conference championships. In the past five seasons, the Trail Blazers have finished in the Top 2 in conference play four times (35-15 record), had 3 Conference and Region Players of the Year, 10 All Region selections, 12 All Conference selections, 3 Freshman of the Year awards, 3 Conference Coach of the Year accolades, 2 Region 24 Coach of the Year nods, 3 NJCAA First or Second Team All-Americans, 4 Region Semi-Final appearances, and 3 Region Championship game appearances. Coach Hoyt has amassed a 142-86 overall record since his return 7 seasons ago, including a 50-20 conference mark. Hoyt has been recognized as the Mid West Athletic Conference Coach of the Year three times (2014, 2015, 2018), the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year twice (2014, 2015) and the Region 24 Coach of the Year following the 2014 and 2018 seasons. JWCC basketball has had a total of four First Team All-Americans, all coached by Hoyt and three in the past five seasons (TJ Tisdell, 2014; Jordan Johnson, 2015; Gabe McKenzie, 2017). In his eight total years as the head coach, Coach Hoyt has amassed a 161-98 overall record at JWCC, coached a total of 17 All-Region players, 6 All-Americans, and a total of 35 student-athletes signed four-year scholarships following their time as a Trail Blazer. In addition, Coach is currently the men's basketball chair within the Mid West Athletic Conference.

Coach Hoyt earned a Bachelor's Degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA in 1997.  He has completed graduate work at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Coach Hoyt is also the Director of Athletics at the college, leading the athletic department as the lead administrator. He has served in several Student Service positions in college and has been a college instructor for several years.

Coach and his wife Nikki will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary during the Summer of 2018 and are very proud parents of three children, Sydnie (16), Jake (13), and Luke (7).
